After a challenging start to the Monster Energy British Grand Prix weekend, wild-card entry Remy Gardner continued his testing programme for the Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Test Team and made progress. He finished the Sprint in 18th place, having collected useful data.

Remy continued his programme with the Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Test Team on the Monster Energy British Grand Prix Saturday. The Australian rider, who made progress in every session this race weekend, enjoyed engaging in battles during the 10-lap dash. He finished in 18th place, and as he rode with new items in a race-like setting, he has provided Yamaha with valuable data.

Remy had a strong start from P22 and moved up to 17th place within less than half of the first lap. However, he then got under pressure from Raul Fernandez and Johann Zarco and fell back to 19th. On lap 3, Takaaki Nakagami had closed in on Remy as well, who welcomed the competition. The battle soon became about 18th place because Francesco Bagnaia crashed out with six laps to go. Though the Yamaha test rider couldn’t maintain his position for long, he moved up the order again as Marc Marquez took a fall on lap 8. Remy continued to push and finished in 18th place, 31.070s from first.

MotoGP will be back in action tomorrow for Warm Up, held from 09:40 – 09:50 GMT +1, and the 20-lap Race, which starts at 13:00.

REMY GARDNER

I was learning on the bike. This morning I was trying to get off the brakes and try to trust the tyres a bit more, and that was good. I did a decent qualifying lap, which I was quite happy about. I had a good start in the Sprint, but I got smashed into the side by Zarco on lap 2 or 3 in Turn 7, so I lost probably quite a few seconds there. I may have just finished around Takaaki if that hadn’t happened, which is okay. I fought with Takaaki for most of the race in the end. I need to improve on pace, and we also need to fine-tune the bike. I think we gave some good comments, and if we can engage in a battle again tomorrow, it would be a good result.
